Wine time: Aussie red showcases winemaker’s magic
Skye Warren, Seville Quarter;
Where are you, Australian wine lovers? If you’re out there and hoping to snag that delicious Shiraz you’ve been longing for, look no further. Let’s head to Barossa Valley, one of the best winemaking regions in Australia. It’s barbecue season, and this 2010 Glaetzer Wallace should be No. 1 on your grocery list.
Glaetzer Wines came to be in 1995, and since has produced wines of fantastic quality. The star behind this popular 2010 Shiraz (rated 91 points by Wine Advocate) is award-winning winemaker Colin Glaetzer’s son, Ben Glaetzer.
Ben has been receiving fantastic recognition for his work, including Qantas Young Winemaker of the Year in 2004 and New World Winemaker of the Year in Behind the Label in 2006. This wine is a true representation of Ben Glaetzer’s magic.
The temperatures in Barossa Valley are ideal for producing big, robust red wines with nice structure and beautiful fruits; both of which you will find in this Shiraz, which is blended with 16 percent Grenache. The combination of these two grapes flourishes into a delightful and luscious wine. It is very rich in color, with dark, ripe fruits, a plush body, and mild acidity. The tannins and bold personality make it a perfect pairing for your spring barbecue parties. If you don’t want to pop this wine open just yet, don’t worry; this beast can hang tight for a few more years.
Head on down to the Seville Quarter Wine Shoppe and grab yourself a bottle that will make you fall in love with Australia all over again. We are fully stocked with the 2010 Glaetzer Wallace at $23.99, money you won’t regret spending!
