Seville Quarter and Columbia Southern University feed Military

 Nov 22, 2018

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) -- Being with family for the holidays is often taken for granted but Government Street was blocked off downtown Wednesday night just so our military could enjoy Thanksgiving traditions.

Holiday music filled the air as nearly 100 active-duty military members and their families celebrated a day early with a game of corn hole and hot plates of food.

Seville Quarter and Columbia Southern University teamed up to make it happen.

"Columbia Southern University has a military student population of about 40 percent so many of those are here in the Pensacola area," CSU Communications Manager Brittany Gibson said.

Organizers say this is to show appreciation at a time when they cannot go home.

"At this time of the holidays, a lot of the service members can't leave and go visit their families and they're stationed here at different military bases," CSU Military Outreach Director Dr. Ernie Rosado said.

This was the first year for the dinner and it was a success so they hope to make it an annual event.
