Velpeau Nobles, Seville Quarter The weather is warming up, and it's time to start chilling down those refreshing white wines. Domaine de Pouy, Vin de Pays des Cotes de Gascogne 2012, from the southwest of France, is an excellent option. This wine has been a favorite of teh Wine Advocate's Robert Parker for the past 20 years. The grape varietals used in this wine are 60 percent Ugui Blanc and 40 percent Colombard, which are traditionally used in the production of Cognac and Armagnac. With citrus and crisp apple aromas on the nose and clean, smooth creamy lemon on the palate, this wine's long finish will pair well with oysters, seafood or other lighter fare. Domaine de Pouy is available in the Seville Quarter Wine & Gift Shoppe for $7.99. Santa Duc Les Blovac Rasteau Cotes du Rhone Villages is produced by Domaine Santa Duc and received a 91 point Robert Parker rating in this vintage. The wine is composed of 70 percent Grenache, 15 percent Syrah and 15 percent Mourvedre. Dark fruit, ripe blackberries, chocolate and black plums, and a touch of earth on the finish, are some of the nuances of this big, bold red wine from the southern Rhone valley of France. Rasteau is a parish in the Southern Rhone Valley, and is just 15 miles northeast of the famous Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Rasteau wines were promoted to full, independent AOC status in July 2010, and as such, fall into a similar prestigious realm with Gigondas, Vacqueras and Chateauneuf-du-Pape as the most sought after wines of the Rhone Valley. Domaine Santa Duc, already known as one of the best wine producers from Gigondas, now has a wonderful offering from the Rasteau AOC. Pair this wine with steak or lamb for a great wine and food pairing. This big, 15 percent alcohol beauty is only $16.99 in Seville Quarter's Wine & Gift Shoppe. These featured wines were big hits in one of our most recent Friday Wine Tastings. Wine tastings are from 5 to 7 p.m. every Friday, and they are free to the public. Seville Quarter, 130 E.
