After months of hype, Seville Quarter is finally ready to launch downtown Pensacola's newest steakhouse, The District, this Thursday.

The District steak and seafood restaurant at 123 E. Government St. is a two-story restaurant directly across the street from Seville Quarter. It has a first-floor dining room, an upstairs lounge and a dry aging room for its beef — a room that will be visible to customers through a hallway window.

"It's a part of the Seville Quarter family, and we hope it's going to be a lot of fun," said part owner of Seville and its marketing director, Buck Mitchell. "Great food and great service are certainly the main goals. Hopefully we're adding another great restaurant to downtown Pensacola."

The District and executive chef Josh Warner will dry age their own beef. On the menu will be dry-aged steaks, normal wet-age steak selections and, of course, fresh Gulf seafood.

General Manager Gil Carmichael told the News Journal in April that he expects to cultivate an upscale-but-casual type of atmosphere in the upstairs lounge, which will be filled with leather lounge chairs, love seats and couches, and cocktail-height tables.

"It's truly an adult-oriented social environment, very much like the Lounge at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan," Carmichael said. "The upstairs will be very upscale and very much needed in Pensacola."

Mitchell added that he expects the restaurant to mirror the same kind of vibe.

"One things about The District steakhouse is, it's gonna have a casual atmosphere, it's not gonna be stuffy," Mitchell said. "It's definitely going to be fine dining and fine service, but it's going to be an American Steakhouse. There will certainly be people with ties and people with jeans and boots on."

The District's official ribbon cutting with the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday. Mitchell said reservations for opening day are just about filled up.
