I will do my best not to sound like a wine dweeb, but we came across an excellent Chateauneuf du Pape that we are now carrying in the shop - an exquisite and traditional wine at an affordable price point. Produced by the Michel Maret of the Maret family - a family lineage rooted deep in wine cultivation for over 120 years. This Charbonniere bottle is a traditional old world French blend that satisfies the palate and the internal accountant. This part may get a little nerdy, but to the folks out there that enjoy experiencing the unique styles of wine, this may interest you. Chateauneuf du Pape (CDP) has a rich history I enjoy sharing, and began with a pope who really enjoyed his vino! Early 1300s, Pope Clement V moved to the southern Rhone area amidst political conflict, dubbing the area Chateauneuf du Pape, or Popes New Castle. Voil! Over the many years, the area experienced great difficulty through the phylloxera epidemic, but also great successes in rebuilding and establishing a global reputation for traditional and decadent old world French blends. A little fun fact, there are thirteen CDP varietals: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvdre, Cinsault, Clairette, Vaccarse, Bourboulenc, Roussanne, Counoise, Muscardin, Picpoul, Picardan and Terret Noir. This 2012 Domaine de la Charbonniere CDP is an excellent wine, and we are proud to have such a unique variety of French wine to offer our patrons. I have been absolutely submerged in the wine world since my employment began at Seville Quarter. It has been a true joy to immerse myself in this fascinating study, and enjoy the many experiences, trends, and nuances wine offers. Personally, my palate searches for new French wines I can enjoy and share with friends. Keep a look out for the Rhone regions - truly remarkable wines are inherently grown in the pebbles and red clay of this area. Enjoy this Charbonniere Chateauneuf du Pape now, or the next several years. Highly recommend using a decanter for an hour with a slight 10 minute chill prior to serving to really explore the intense fruit, rich tannin, and depth this wine has to offer. Purchase your bottle at the Seville Quarter Wine Shop for $31.99! A great deal to experience the rich history this terroir has provided since the time of the Romans!
