Jazz Gumbo set for June 20 at Seville Quarter

� Jazz Gumbo set for June 20 PNJ.com h4. June 8, 2011 Pensacola Jazz Society�s June �Jazz Gumbo� will feature an internationally acclaimed guitarist on June 20 at Seville Square. Joshua Walker returns to Pensacola, along with bassist Karine Capdelaine-Walker and drummer George Neidorf, who make up the Joshua Walker Trio. The performance starts at 6 p.m. on June 20 in the Phineas Phoggs room in Seville Quarter, 130 E. Government St., in downtown Pensacola. A resident of Washington, D.C., Walker spent a year studying at the Peabody Conservatory of the John Hopkins University. He has studied with Paul Bollenback, Gary Thomas, Greg Osby and Michael Formanet. He was awarded the Charlie Byrd Endowment for guitar playing. He currently is a guitar instructor at the Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C., and the Harmonia School of Music and Art in Oakton, Va. A versatile guitarist and composer, Walker has perform around the world with a number of musical greats at many well-known festivals, venues and events, including the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts and Blues Alley in Washington, D.C. His first album, �Inertia,� features his original compositions performed in a quartet setting of guitar, saxophone, bass and drums. It is available on cdbaby.com. Admission is $8 for Jazz Society members, $10 for guests, $5 for students with ID and no charge for members of the military in uniform. Admission includes a free cup of seafood gumbo. Jazz Gumbo is regularly scheduled on the third Monday of each month.
