Wine Time: 2010 Bogeda Breca Garnacha will earn praise Written By, Bill Carlson Seville Quarter PNJ.com There is no doubt that Spanish wines have been on an incredible roll for the past several years. And why not? They are packed with plenty of sun-drenched Mediterranean personality and are some of the most incredible values available anywhere. A lot of different grape varietals grow throughout the many wine regions in Spain but my favorite is the vibrantly rich Garnacha. Garnacha can take on a wide range of personas from subdued and polite to brooding and intense. At its best, it combines old-world complexity with the ripe and velvety fruit of the new world. The man leading the renaissance of Spanish wines thriving in the states is Jorge Ordoez. His single-mindedness in his pursuit of finding the best wines of Spain and importing them to the American market has been highly successful. I have never had a wine that he has put his name behind that hasnt merited attention. Bodega Breca is a new project in Spain that specializes in old-vine Garnacha planted between 1925 and 1945. These old gnarly vines produce an astonishing extracted wine with layers of dark fruits and exotic spices from hillsin the picturesque city of Calatayud in Aragon. The 2010 Breca is a noteworthy wine in that the most eminent wine critic in the world, Robert Parker, gushed over this wine last month. Frankly I was at a loss for words when I tasted it, he wrote. It may be the most amazing wine I have ever tasted at this price in over three decades. Pretty high praise from someone who tastes in the neighborhood of 10,000 wines a year. This high praise is also a double-edged sword. A wine that normally you wouldnt have a problem finding is all of a sudden allocated and in short supply. Luckily, we have latched on to a bit of this 94-point Parker wine. It is available in Sevilles Wine Shoppe for $15.99. Seville Quarter, 130 E.
