July Wine Time "Gravitas"

July Wine Time "Gravitas"

Seville Quarter Wine Time

As the Gulf Coast welcomes another summer season, I am on the hunt for white wines to enjoy during the scorching heat and high humidity. For my palate, I am looking for a viscous style that I can enjoy multiple glasses of - similar to viognier, semillon, or an Austrian Grüner Veltliner; a wine that elegantly dances between wood contact and a floral and fruity finish. We tasted the Bonny Doon portfolio several weeks back, and was pleasantly surprised by a lovely showcase of French inspired wine.

Bonny Doon’s creator, Randall Grahm, purchased some land in the Central Coast and began experimenting and planting Rhone varietals in the Santa Cruz AVA of California. I was very pleased with this 2014 “Gravitas” blend comprised of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Orange Muscat. Hinting towards the style of the Graves region of France, this “Gravitas” blend possesses perfume aromas of peach and ripe melon while finishing with herbaceous and natural qualities of grass and vanilla.

I enjoyed this bottle (among a few others) with a great friend of mine, chatting as the summer sun was setting on her front porch. We were joined by the company of several hungry mosquitos, the chippery personalities of busy squirrels, and the wavering aroma of the citronella candle flickering into the night. We paired this delicious summer wine with a bag of peanuts and a chilled assortment of chocolates - feel free to explore this wine on its own or pair with grilled vegetables, seafood, and oysters! Remember, the best and most savoring aspect of wine, is to enjoy the experience with people you love.

Pick up this bottle at Seville Quarter for $15.49! Cheers, Pensacola!
