March Jazz Gumbo
Monday, March 20th 5:30pm
The Jazz Society of Pensacola's Jazz Gumbo (implying a delicious mix of various ingredients giving a wonderful effect) happens every third Monday evening of each month except December. Live jazz is featured in a variety of styles with groups or bands chosen from around the Emerald Coast area. Doors open at 5:30.
Featuring: trumpeter Roger Villines and a sterling sextet performing Miles Davis’ quintessential jazz album "Kind of Blue." First issued in 1959, "Kind of Blue" is widely recognized as one of the greatest jazz albums ever made with many re-issues and sales over $4 million as of 2008. Joining Villines: Bob Maksymkow on alto sax, Mike Lyle on tenor sax, Gino Rosaria on piano, Steve Gilmore on bass and Jimmy Roebuck on drums. The first set of the evening consists of the five album compositions in the album order. The second set features a variety of blues-oriented jazz tunes in keeping with the “Kind of Blue” theme.
