Jazz Gumbo

The Jazz Society of Pensacola's Jazz Gumbo

The Jazz Society of Pensacola’s Jazz Gumbo (implying a delicious mix of various ingredients giving a wonderful effect) happens every third Monday evening of each month except December. Live jazz is featured in a variety of styles with groups or bands chosen from around the Emerald Coast area. Doors open at 5:30.

For March 2012, The Jazz Society welcomes trumpeter Wade Baker. Mr. Baker, who is on a Southern states tour, hails from Cincinnati Ohio. The other members of his group are Anthony Lee on drums, and Andrew Tombs on keyboard. The trio is also performing at the Paradise on Pensacola Beach while in Pensacola.

Wade Baker received his Undergraduate Degree (B.S. with a concentration in Jazz Studies) from the University of Indianapolis in 2006 and is working on attaining his Master’s Degree from C.C.M. in Jazz Trumpet (M.M. Jazz Studies). Baker’s versatility makes him fit comfortably playing with many different types of artists in many different styles. He has played Bass Guitar at several of the country’s leading blues festivals (International Blues Challenge, Bean Blossom Blues Festival and Cincinnati Blues Festival) in addition to the many Jazz Festivals he has been a part of playing his trumpet.

Cost of admission is $8 for JSOP members with membership card, $10 for nonmembers, $5 for students with ID and free for military people in uniform. Admission includes a cup of seafood gumbo.

Door prizes are given away via drawing of admission tickets, and attendees can purchase 50/50 tickets for another drawing where the winner gets half and JSOP gets the other half as a benefit to the Society’s music program. One may order from the menu and cash bar is also available. Guests are welcome. Those joining the Society get free admission to their first Jazz Gumbo.
